Looking for ways to help the MKE Artists grow and support what we’re doing? The best way is to join a team! Teams are groups of people who help with tasks in a specific area, and people on different teams are added to special channels in the Discord server where they can work together to plan and collaborate.

Social Media & Promotion Team 

This team helps with promoting events and artists through social media and newsletters, as well as highlighting the things we’ve done recently! If you’re interested in creating and sharing digital information, this team might be for you. Here are some of the things you may help out with:

  • Setting up social media posts across various platforms

  • Writing up email newsletters

  • Taking and/or editing photos of events

  • Making social media graphics

  • Interviewing community artists for Artist Spotlights

  • Setting up Artist Spotlight social media posts and newsletter sections

Events Team

In-person and online events are a huge part of what we do, and they take a lot of time and effort! The more people we have helping out in hosting and promoting events, the better they turn out, and the more we can have. People who love to teach, talk, and help people feel like part of the community would be a great fit for this team. Being on the event team includes volunteer opportunities like: 

  • Hosting community events such as hangouts and workshops

  • Planning upcoming events

  • Helping out at events as an assistant

  • Communicating with event vendors and reviewing applications

  • Working with the Social Media and Community Outreach teams to design & distribute flyers for upcoming events

Community Outreach Team

As MKE Artists grows, we want to invite as many people as possible to learn about what we do, join as artists, or attend our events and support our artists as members of the public! The Community Outreach team will focus on drawing attention to the group’s mission and values so that we can reach as many people as possible. This team will be getting out into the community at large and helping out in a lot of different ways, such as: 

  • Putting up flyers

  • Keeping an eye out for local bulletin boards and keeping the bulletin map updated

  • Helping collect, sort, and grow native plant seeds

  • Growing plants to donate to fundraising sales

  • Caring for the Humboldt Park native plant garden

  • Assisting with community outreach & educational events

Website & Moderation Team

A lot of our community efforts take place online through resources on the website and discord channels. These also need a lot of upkeep, and if you’re into data entry, organization, or research, this team could use you! Tasks the Website and Moderation team help with include:

  • Moderating the discord to support our healthy, cooperative environment 

  • Collecting and posting opportunities and resources for artists in the Discord channel

  • Updating and maintaining the MKEArtists.org website

  • Updating and maintaining various resources

FAQ

  • If you don’t feel ready to commit to a volunteer team but want to help out from time to time, there are plenty of ways that you can get involved on a case-by-case basis! We regularly ask for volunteer help in the membership discord chat for things like event help, flyering, and helping with collaborative community projects like caring for the new pollinator garden at Humboldt Park.

  • We recommend that you choose an area you’d like to focus on, especially to avoid burnout, but you can always sign up for any volunteer opportunity that catches your fancy! The team you sign up for determines which opportunities you get specific notifications for when they’re posted.
